If Buddha had Headphones was my first Smart Relaxation track, which inspired the SR 4 Life, Health etc series of tracks. It is set on a beautiful tropical island and combines ancient wisdom with modern behavioural science, to create a simple and powerful 4 step, smart relaxation technique, that anyone can quickly master... it's meditation for the 21st Century.

In order to teach yourself this life changing skill, simply listen to the track every day for at least 14 days... and then whenever you need to release stress or perform at your best.

It's not rocket science... but it is science!

Every time you repeat a thought or an action, an electrical connection is formed in your brain. Once the connection is strong enough, the thought or action becomes automatic. Anyone who drives a car will know exactly how this works. This principle works equally well whilst learning to relax deeply and training your mind to think of yourself differently. So the more you listen to the track the better will be the results.

Let the music be your mantra...
You begin your guided journey by closing your eyes and imagining an ancient stepping stone, which has been walked on for thousands of years. This stone is alive with music...the music that is playing in the background. You are invited to stand on the stepping stone and imagine the music flowing up through the stone and into your body. 

You acknowledge in your mind that this music is a signal for you to relax deeply ...your music mantra. 

Practitioners of meditation understand this as the 'mantra effect', where the word is like a key allowing you to enter a state of deep relaxation. Behavioural psychologists understand it as a conditioned reflex response or the Pavlov's dog effect. This effect gets stronger and stronger over time and, therefore, the more you listen, the faster and deeper you will relax.

Transport yourself to a beautiful tropical island...
You can now see a second stepping stone in front of you and when you stand on this stone you will be instantly transported to a beautiful tropical island. You stroll along the beach leaving a lazy trail of footprints in the sand, dip your feet in the warm tropical ocean and relax to a deeper level.

Deep relaxation is the body's natural mechanism for releasing stress... and the less stress you have the happier, healthier and more in control of your life you will feel.

In meditation this process is described as losing awareness of self, through focus on a single idea. Cognitive hypnotherapy recognises that this relaxation deepening process also creates the ideal state to communicate directly with the subconscious mind

​Meet the most magnificent version of you that you can imagine...
A third stepping stone has now appeared on the beach and when you stand on this stone you will meet up with the person who you are meant to be...you will meet the happiest, healthiest most confident version of yourself that you can imagine. You will then become one with this magnificent version of you and imagine that you are that person.

 Every time you connect with this magnificent version of you, you will subtly change what you believe about yourself and your place in the world.


On this step you will also be invited to imagine yourself at a time of success in the future when you have achieved a goal that you have set yourself. 

Your subconscious cannot tell the difference between what is real and imagined. Every time you imagine your own success your subconscious believes the experience to be real and this creates an adjustment in its belief about what will happen in the future.

Journey to your centre...
When you stand on the fourth stone you will be invited to relax to an even deeper level in whatever way feels right for you. The music plays on for another 45 minutes, so you can continue relaxing for as long or as short as is right for you at the time.

In meditation this journey is described as a search for enlightenment, a journey to a place where all questions are answered and where even the most deep seated stress can be released. On this step you may experience tingling sensations, time distortion and blissful states of deep relaxation. 

Relaxing deeply is a skill like any other. Some are naturally good at it, whilst others have to practice. Everyone, however, can learn to relax deeply and, once learned, it is a skill for life.

Listen to this track every day for 14 days and then, whenever you need to release stress or perform at your best. This will help you stay calm and in control of your life... and every time you imagine yourself as the person you would like to be, the closer you are to becoming that person.
